Peter Friis Johansson plays newly written Five Pieces for Piano and Orchestra by recent 75-year-old Sven-David Sandström! Also music by Shostakovich and Haydn – and almost by Mozart, but mainly by Alfred Schnittke.

Israeli conductor Omer Meir Wellber is back at Berwaldhallen, now with new music by Sven-David Sandström: Five Pieces for Piano and Orchestra, commissioned by Peter Friis Johansson, who will also perform it himself. Alfred Schnittke’s Moz-Art à la Haydn is a stark contrast, a theatrical and – in terms of the sound – humorous work that celebrates and parodies both the old composers. There is actual Haydn too, with his Symphony No. 49. Symphony No. 9 by Shostakovich – a composer admired by Schnittke – will also be performed.
