Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra collaboration with Kulturskolan
The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra is passionate about giving children and young people the opportunity to discover symphonic music. We therefore collaborate with Kulturskolan’s orchestra school/El Sistema Stockholm.

When you play in an orchestra, you not only make new friends and experience the joy of playing together, but you also learn how symphonic music is structured and what it means to collaborate with other musicians. Participating in Western art music can also provide valuable insights into our living cultural history.
By playing music together with others, you develop sensitivity and the ability to adapt to a common rhythm and melody. Music is a kind of communication that goes beyond age, language and opinions – it’s about creating something beautiful together.
At the Kulturskolan’s orchestra school, teachers from El Sistema Stockholm help their students explore orchestra playing every week. In addition, the young musicians receive help from the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, who not only share their love of orchestral music, but also show what it means to have music as a profession. They act as mentors and role models.
Kulturskolan and Berwaldhallen work together to create more opportunities for the students in the orchestra school. Musicians from the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra (SRSO) and El sistema play together at rehearsals and concerts. The radio musicians also hold masterclasses where students get the chance to deepen their knowledge, ask questions and get advice straight from professional musicians.
These meetings take place both in the Kulturskolan’s premises on Kungsholmen, in Bredäng and Farsta, as well as at Berwaldhallen, where students also receive free tickets to concerts.

Common concerts during the 2023/2024 season
- 9 March 2024: Stockholms Ungdomssymfoniorkester SUSO at Berwaldhallen.
- 27 March 2024, at 6.15 p.m.: Chamber music at Stadsteatern Skärholmen. The Orkesterskolan wind section and member of the SRSO.
- Chamber music concert. The Orkesterskolan string section and members of the SRSO. Venue and date to be announced.
- 2 June 2024, at 3 p.m.: The Orkesterskolan traditional end of term concert at Berwaldhallen. Music with El Sistema Stockholm, SUSO and members of the SRSO.
