Season 2025/2026
We are pleased to present the concert season 2025/2026 with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Radio Choir, offering an impressive collection of international stars and a range of exciting musical experiences. Prepare the coffee, sit back, and read about everything the next season has to offer – it's quite a lot
A stellar lineup of conductors
Maxim Emelyanychev joins us as Principal Guest Conductor, while our honorary conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen takes on the role of Artist in Residence. We are also thrilled to welcome several highly sought-after conductors, including Sir Antonio Pappano, Polar Prize winner Barbara Hannigan, Nathalie Stutzmann, Eun Sun Kim, the legendary Herbert Blomstedt, Susanna Mälkki, and Thomas Adès, among others.
This season feels particularly exciting. For the first time in 18 years, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra will be without a chief conductor. While Daniel Harding will certainly be missed, this change also brings the opportunity to forge new connections and relationships.
– Staffan Becker, Concert Hall Manager
Artists in Residence
Conductor and composer Esa-Pekka Salonen shares the title of Artist in Residence with star violinist Janine Jansen. Highlights include Brahms' and Prokofiev's violin concertos with Jansen as the soloist, and György Ligeti's monumental Requiem conducted by Salonen. Salonen's own music will also be performed on several occasions, including the Swedish premieres of his works Tiu and Gemini.
World-class soloists
In addition to Jansen, we are fortunate to present some of the most acclaimed classical soloists of our time, such as pianists Yuja Wang, Beatrice Rana, Francesco Piemontesi, Yeol Eum Son, and Piotr Anderszewski, violinist Lisa Batiashvili, and cellist Nicolas Altstaedt. Furthermore, the orchestra's own musicians Malin Broman and Rick Stotijn will perform as soloists in a double concerto written by Sally Beamish, and cellist Aleksei Kiseliov will perform Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme with the orchestra, conducted by Colombian Andrés Orozco-Estrada.
Mirrors & Reflections
The theme of this concert season, Mirrors & Reflections, invites you to explore the past, present, and future through music. The theme highlights how composers, both historically and today, have been inspired by artistic expressions and other composers.
I found it an interesting starting point, how composers are inspired and influenced by the past, and thought it would be exciting to develop that idea for an entire season.
– Matthieu Lescure, the orchestra's program director

Planned performances on the theme include Thomas Adès’ Three Studies from Couperin, and Brahms’ Fourth Symphony combined with Bach’s cantata Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich, as Brahms adapted the chaconne theme from Bach’s cantata. Other examples are Strauss’ Aus Italien, influenced by Italian culture, nature, and folklore, Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin, whose structure imitates a baroque dance suite, and Salonen’s previously mentioned Gemini, inspired by the myth of Castor and Pollux, with musical influences from Ravel and Sibelius.
The Swedish Radio Choir's Jubilee
The Swedish Radio Choir's 100th anniversary will be celebrated with a grand jubilee concert at Berwaldhallen and an extensive tour in Japan. In the spring of 2026, the choir will perform three beloved requiems by Fauré, Mozart, and Brahms. Additionally, collaborations with Västerås Sinfonietta and Dalasinfoniettan are planned.
The repertoire should include various types of works from most eras. This is partly for the audience, to showcase the breadth, and partly for the choir. The anniversary year features both favorites from the past, important milestones, and the yet unknown, in premieres.
– Helene Stureborg, Program Director of the Swedish Radio Choir
Children's concerts and popular programmes
There will be several concerts for children during the season, including Niklas and Radioapan and the popular Singalong concerts, as well as exciting surprises to be announced at the end of May. Sveriges Radio programs such as På minuten and Melodikrysset will be recorded live with an audience at Berwaldhallen, and of course, new productions of the immensely popular so-called 'crossover concerts', where pop musicians meet the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, are planned. The artists will be revealed soon, but you can already buy tickets for Disco Inferno, Radiojazzgruppen, and Nils Landgren Christmas with my friends.
The important thing when the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra meets pop music artists is that the musical encounters are exciting and of high quality. The orchestra should find it interesting, and of course, the guest artists as well. We have fantastic, attentive conductors who are skilled arrangers and truly utilise the orchestra's capabilities and strengths.
– Gerd Björnung, Program Director for Events
