Scientists from the Royal Academy of Science’s newly initiated international, interdisciplinary laboratory present research on hope and how you, with your feet firmly planted in reality, can remain hopeful and find the strength to work toward change.

The Anthropocene is a term often used to describe the growing impacts of humans on the planet. As a result, the biosphere on which humans intimately depend is deteriorating and patterns of inequity are reinforced. One may be tempted to assume that hope in the Anthropocene is for the naïve and ill-informed. But are the sciences paying sufficient attention to the role of hope and current changes towards respectful and inclusive Biosphere stewardship?

The Anthropocene Laboratory intends to bring together researchers and artists from diverse disciplines, backgrounds, and places, to explore reasons to be hopeful about changes toward biosphere stewardship.

In this talk, the researchers from the lab will discuss the following points: What it means to have hope in the age of Anthropocene? What are the ongoing works at the lab on the research on hope and the collaboration they build around it? How can we find our roles in realising the future we are hoping for?

Also, don’t miss the Anthropocene Laboratory’s dream kiosk, which invites you to reflect on the power and mystery of hope.
