The Canaima quintet is the Venezuelan composer and pianist Gabriela Montero’s musical comment on the ecological and humanitarian global crisis and deforestation in the Amazon rainforest. Canaima is also the name of a national park and world heritage site in Venezuela, famous for its remarkable mountain formations, waterfalls and rich flora. Gabriela Montero performs this late night concert together with four string musicians.

Co-commissioned for the Calidore String Quartet by The Gilmore in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Ottawa ChamberFest in Canada, Atlanta’s Spivey Hall, the University of Georgia in Athens, the Los Alamos Concert Association in New Mexico, and the Swedish Radio.
